A unique Ph.D. program has been inaugurated at one of the nation’s leading independent research institutes. Its focus is on preparing the next generation of researchers with the required skill-set to translate laboratory discoveries with global impact into new diagnostics, medical devices, and therapeutics.

The 3-4 year program features a first-year curriculum that emphasizes not just the basics of human biology and disease, but more importantly, includes aspects of intellectual property, commercialization, regulatory aspects, and principles and practices of clinical research.  Additionally, topic courses will enable familiarity with areas of research strength at LA BioMed such as Genomics, Infection and Immunity, Metabolic Diseases, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and others.

As increasing emphasis is being placed on the translational aspects of laboratory science, both in academia as well as industry, LA BioMed’s new PhD program will afford students the opportunity to work in the laboratories of investigators with proven track records in bringing their discoveries to the bedside in record time.

LA BioMed is located on the campus of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and features state-of-the-art laboratories as well as level lll, an incubator for bioscience startups and the BioCenter, a nascent industrial park for bioscience companies.

Students in the program will receive a competitive stipend and have opportunities for housing through Marymount California University, if desired.
