Research Description

Dr. Lue's research has demonstrated that: 1) testicular hyperthermia induces male infertility by increased germ cell apoptosis; 2) progestins mediated through the progesterone receptors have direct inhibitory actions on spermatogenesis; 3) Humanin and IGFBP-3 have opposing effects in the regulation of spermatogenesis; 4) Humanin, a small peptide from mitochondria, protects germ cells from damage induced by testicular hormonal deprivation, hyperthermia or chemotherapeutic agents; 5) XXY mouse is an experimental model for men with Klinefelter syndrome, which can be used to investigate the effect of over-expression of X-linked genes on spermatogonial stem cells and test therapeutic strategy for fertility preservation.
