Role of miRNA in leiomyoma pathogenesis; Vascular Mechanisms underlying programmed hypertension

Research Description

Dr. Khorram utilizes a multidisciplinary approach that includes genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to study the role of non-coding RNAs in programmed hypertension and in the pathogenesis of leiomyoma. His laboratory was one of the first to demonstrate the role of miRNAs as an epigenetic mechanism for programming vascular extracellular matrix composition and adult onset vascular stiffening in response to maternal under-nutrition. A second area of research focus is understanding the role of non-coding RNAs and therapies to correct their aberrant expression in leiomyoma.
