High Risk Infants
Research DescriptionThe primary focus of Dr. Smith’s research efforts is on developmental outcomes of newborns born at high risk. She is an investigator for the Newborn Behavior and Outcomes in Very Preterm Infants (NOVI) study, a longitudinal study which aims to determine associations between NICU Network Neurobehavioral Scale (NNNS) score and the developmental outcome at 24 months of very preterm infants born.
Dr. Smith is the co-founder of the Child Health Research Program, leading the Health Services and Outcomes Network. This network of investigators is dedicated to promoting and improving the health and well-being of children and their families by working on collaborative health studies, education outreach and community engagement.
As an Investigator in the Clinical and Community Research Resources Program, UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute at LABioMed Harbor-UCLA, Dr. Smith assists investigators conducting research projects addressing issues of maternal-child health and serves as a liaison between the investigators and the CTSI research staff.
